Advancements are continuing to be made on the CopterSonde platform with the assistance of NOAA’s National Severe Storms Laboratory.
The Technology Partnerships Office recently approved a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) between NSSL and InterMet Systems.
Leveraging NSSL resources and expertise with severe weather research, InterMet Systems will continue its mission to move the science of weather observation via uncrewed aircraft systems (WxUAS) forward.
The purpose of the CopterSonde platform is simple: combine the efficiency of UAS-based observations with proven weather sensing methods. Future platforms will feature higher wind speed tolerance, longer flight duration, automation, and enhanced safety protocols.
